Motion Detector
One fall evening, my husband neglected to turn the porch light on
for me. I had a late meeting and did not get home until after it was
very dark. I pulled into the driveway and shut off my headlights.
Very annoyed that there was absolutely no light, I carefully got out
of my car. I wandered blindly towards the front door, hoping
that I would not trip. Luck was not on my side that particular
evening, because I tripped over the sidewalk and my armful of
paperwork scattered and I went down. I was livid. I knew right then
that we had to get a porch light that has a motion detector.
My husband says that he hates to have the porch light on all evening
and night because it is a waste of energy. While I do agree with
that concern, a motion detector would have saved me from falling all
over the place that dark evening. So, after much encouragement from
me, we visited Home Depot and choose a new porch light that had a
motion detector that would light our porch and driveway when someone
or something triggered it. I wanted to have it aimed towards the
driveway so that when our vehicles pulled up, we would have light to
make our way safely to the front door. The salesman help us to find
the appropriate motion detector for us. He showed us how to adjust
the sensitivity and timer on it. I was concerned that every animal
in the neighborhood would be setting off the motion detector until
he showed us how to control that somewhat. Though he showed us some
higher quality and costly ones, I wanted a motion detector that was
in our price range. We found a very nice one.
My husband spent hours and hours attempting to get this motion
detector and light installed. I wouldn't have guessed that it would
be too difficult but his grumbling left me thinking otherwise. Of
course, he's not mechanically inclined in the least. I don't imagine
it would take normal people too long to install. Once it was finally
completed, he told me that I'd better like my new motion detector
because he's used up his entire afternoon. I ignored him and
couldn't wait for it to get dark.
Not only can a motion detector provide for your own safety once it
is dark outside, but it can save energy as well. Plus, it is
excellent for security purposes. If someone was to walk into our
yard or driveway, the light would go on. Our neighbors have a camera
hooked up to their motion detector. If you are wandering around in
her yard, your picture may end up in the newspaper. She's incredibly
paranoid. I didn't get my motion detector to get rid of curious
robbers, I just didn't want to end up on the ground again. Now, if I
trip and fall, I won't be able to blame it on anyone other than
myself.Read more about spy & surveillance
