Use Your Landscape For Security.
A few people might realize it, but your yard is
your first line of defense against potential robbers. This is why it
is important to use landscaping as a security measure. The
landscaping must be a part of a multi-layer defense system for your
home, it being the first layer.
To understand how landscaping may be effective in preventing robbers
from entering your home, you must first be familiar with the
psychology of most robbers. Believe it or not, most burglars do not
plan their break ins. Yes, that is a fact. Burglaries are often
crimes of opportunity. This means that most burglars pick the house
based on what seem like an easier target. If they see that house is
a risk, then they wouldn't break into that house. Burglars, like
anybody else, hate risks.
The trick therefore is to make your house look riskier to break
into. This could be achieved by increasing your effort in keeping
your home from looking like a simple target for burglary. If you
will be able to do this, you and your family will be safe from
burglars.
To protect your house from being simple target of burglars, all you
need to do is to perform simple changes in your landscaping. What
robbers are looking for is a house that can quickly go in get out
into. In this case, it would be harder for the burglars, to get
caught. As far as landscaping is concerned, a home with tall hedges
and shrubs is the bet target. This is because the tall hedges and
shrubs make the house less visible from the street and from the
other houses' view.
The simplest way for you to use landscaping as protection to your
home from robbery is to trim your tall hedges and bushes. Cut them
ins a way that will reveal your windows and doors. This would
sacrifice a bit of your privacy but would definitely increase your
security against robbers. The rationale behind this is to deny
robbers places in which to hide.
If your house has a second or third floor, then you should prune the
leaves of trees so that your windows will show. Most robbers use
ladders to enter the houses through the second or even the third
floor. Make sure also that tresses would not serve as convenient
adders for would be burglars.
You also cut all plants that are along the sidewalk, doorways,
driveways and your gate. The bushes and plants in these areas must
be low to allow better visibility. The ideal height is no ore than
four feet. If you keep plants under the window, then those should be
low as well.
Even the length of your lawn is a telltale clue on whether your
house is a good target or not. An un cut lawn would suggest that you
are constantly out of the house and thus attract burglars to
consider your house as a target.
You can also place elements on the ground and along walkways. By
putting gravel on the path, you will be warned when someone is
coming towards your house through the sound of the gravel. Do not
put large rocks though because this could be sued by burglars as
weapons against t you.
By following these simple steps, you house will sure to be burglar
proof.
