How To Carry Key-Chain Pepper Sprays
Keychain pepper sprays
are popular because they are convenient and in your hand at times of
high risk when you are entering your car or residence. But keep in mind
that muggers and carjackers often strike just at the moment the car is
opened. Where are your keys with the pepper spray attached? Trapped in
the door lock. You should either purchase a key separator or
quick-disconnect from a hardware store or be extremely aware of who and
what is going on around you as you approach or leave your car or home.
If you carry a
keychain pepper spray, you should adjust
the spray in the holster so the snap on the top flap is next to your
thumb when the nozzle is pointed forward. This insures you can rest your
thumb on the snap and feel when the pepper spray is pointed in the right
direction without looking at it.
Some
key-chain pepper sprays you can activate simply
by pushing the flap down. Others require you to swing the trigger button
to the rear then push down which may be difficult and time consuming if
you're being attacked. If you have this type of spray, simply
slide the button over any time you carry your pepper spray in your hand
and slip it back to the safe position before you put it back into your
purse or pocket. With some key-chain pepper sprays it's best to unsnap
the flap with your thumb to get it ready to carry.
Another type of keychain spray utilizes a molded
plastic case with a replacement OC cartridge. It also has a built-in
safety that is definitely for right-handers. Left-handed people should
move the safety button to the firing position before carrying the pepper
spray and put the safety back on before putting it away.
Regardless of the type of key-chain pepper spray you
have, you should experiment and practice before you need to use it. |
