Home Intercom Systems: How To Do It
Yourself
These days, a doorbell is not enough for the
homeowner to answer the door. Many prefer to get the home intercom
system instead to be able to communicate with whoever is there.
It takes a lot of work to make a home intercom system. Luckily, the
individual can just buy this from the store and then install this
without any help.
All home intercom systems are composed of the power box, 2 RF
transmitters and the remote sensor. Since the new ones today are
wireless, after putting in batteries, this can be up and running in
no time after this is mounted into the wall.
Those who are still using the hardwired system should install the
battery back up so that it is still working should there be a power
failure. The person should also do some measuring in and outside the
house to be able to get enough wiring from the store.
Each wire must be connected properly to the sensors. If there is
space in the circuit board for it, then this should be connected
there. Those who are not able to do this should reroute it to one of
the breakers.
The RF transmitters are usually weather proof. This is because a
deliveryman may drop by with the package even when it rains. To be
safe, the person can put this in a secure place or even screw this
to the wall so it will stay put.
The power box will only work by putting it in an AC outlet. The best
place to put this is in one of the corners of the living room
because this is usually the nearest to the door.
The other RF transmitter should be placed where the homeowner
usually stays. This can be screwed on the wall of the kitchen for
those who cook often. The home office is another option for those
who work there the whole day.
There are other models that can be handheld. This means the person
does not have to do the kitchen or study to find out who is at the
door.
Another type of home intercom system works like the phone. This can
be placed in different rooms so that someone downstairs can just
press a button to tell everyone that lunch or dinner is ready.
This is a little more complicated than the kind for the door but
most of these systems can easily be installed because it comes with
an instruction manual.
Another challenge is knowing how to program the machine. Again, the
person should read the manual since everything is there. It is best
to understand the whole thing because some of these machines also
serve as an alarm in case there are intruders outside.
Should the customer have any problems, there is always the toll free
number that can be called so that a customer representative can
render the proper assistance.
Before activating it, this should be tested. A member of the family
can go outside and pretend to be a deliveryman to ensure there won't
be any problems when the real thing happens.
Most of the home intercom systems being sold in the market are now
do it yourself. With the proper tools, this can be set up and
running as though this was done by a professional. |
